Do you remember what it was like when you created your first masterpiece? My students would like the opportunity to do the same with nice quality art supplies and books that tell about the lives of famous artist.
We are a Title I, inner-city public school in California.
Our school is in a high poverty neighborhood where most parents speak little or no English. My class consists of Latino and Asian students. They are all English language learners who hold a high potential for academic success.
About two-thirds of my students participate in our after-school programs until 6 PM five days a week. My students enjoy coming to school and being part of a great learning community. My students have a creative imagination, and they dream of going on magic carpet rides where they can be and do the impossible.
My Project
Art supplies are looked over with a small budget, and with more than 600 students at our school, items quickly get used. I am requesting books on famous artists, people color tempura paint, foil paper, washable color paint brushes, art frames, and classroom clothesline for my first graders so they may continue to develop their artistic talents. I have a very artistic and talented group his year. My goal is to have them work on an art piece at least once a week. With the holidays hear my students are requesting they make holiday art gifts for their families. How great is that? I truly enjoy when my little one brings home her works of art so I would love for my students' parents to experience the same.
In fact, I am currently working on setting up a gallery day for parents and family members to come into our classroom to view their child's masterpieces. I would love to believe that this could turn out to be a great holiday event! Won't you please be a part of it?
