My Students

Have you ever known exactly what needs to be done, but didn't have the materials to do it with? That's my situation right now.

I teach 22 children in a kinder-first grade combo class.

I have 9, first graders and 13 kinders. They are all wonderful, little people, who rise to any challenge that I can present them with. They are all at various reading levels, writing levels, and math development.

My Project

Because my students are all at very different levels in reading, I am seeking leveled reading materials, that I can use to differentiate my reading instruction. I teach in small groups almost all day to make sure that I am meeting the needs of all my students. The materials that I am requesting contain 4 titles of each level and will allow me to teach small groups and practice vocabulary, comprehension, and word attack skills. These small group guided Reading kits will be perfect.

This project is really important to me because I believe that it is so important to differentiate my instruction.

Without these materials, I will have a hard time finding just the right level of reading passage to read with each group. I think it is only fair to teach kids exactly what they need and not waste their time with things that are too hard or too easy. Small groups is the way to go.
