R.L. Stine has said that he is "happy to terrify kids"... and it seems that kids are happy to be terrified! Though we have a large collection of Goosebumps books in our school library, they are usually checked out. Our kids need more Goosebumps at our school so more students can read them!
Our students love to read and love coming to the library.
Everyday in the library I have students of all ages, from Kindergarten through Fifth Grade, requesting Goosebumps books. Titles from the series are swooped up almost immediately after being checked back into the library. Because the library is a place to explore personal interests, it is important that we are able to provide the resources students are asking for.
Our students are overflowing with a love of learning, but are not always overflowing with resources at home. Because we are a Title 1 school, and many of our students do not have access to vital learning resources at home, it is important that our school and school library is able to provide our students with the resources they need and want.
My Project
The resources we are requesting for this project will be used to help support the school library by adding more Goosebumps titles to our catalog, but is also geared towards providing resources for students to keep. Our library plans to hold a Family Literacy Night in our school library with a Goosebumps theme. Students and families will be invited to engage over a common Goosebumps text, participate in a shared Goosebumps activity, and, at the end of the night, receive their very own Goosebumps book to take home and enjoy.
By providing students and their families with literacy based events and resources we can help ensure our students interests are encouraged and that they use them to keep learning and keep reading!
This project will make a difference by putting Goosebumps books into the hands of our kids.
By providing students with the books they are interested now, we can provide them with a love of reading that can last a lifetime.
