Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 10 high school students who are on the spectrum. My students are motivated and eager to gain new skills. They are focusing their time in school on preparing for life after high school; that looks different for every student. . Each student has individual goals and visions for their futures. A common goal for all of them is to gain independence.

My students are looking forward to being as independent as possible after high school.

Studies show that reading and having discussions will lead to more empathy and better communication skills. Reading is a great opportunity for them to not only gain critical thinking skills but also help them communicate better through analysis and discussions.

My Project

Reading the boxset of books with my students and using the materials to do close reading strategies will give my students a reading experience they will always remember. Through book discussions we will improve our communication skills.

My students want to lead an independent life after high school.

Reading helps build your vocabulary, enhance your sentence-structure abilities and improve your overall communication skills. As they read, they will become more comfortable with the English language and be able to use it more confidently both in oral communication and written work.
