My Students

I am a K/1 Bridge classroom teacher in Central Harlem teaching children with special needs. The community in which I work encompasses a diverse group of cultures with families from multiple backgrounds. My students are youthful, early childhood learners who enjoy engaging with each other though they must socially distance. They often find ways to share what they are learning as they social distance by dividing up toys and books in order that assist in their social emotional development daily.

My Project

My students love to read different types of books. They share and exchange books as they learn to read. They learn to use picture cues and identify favorite characters as they look for authors that will help them become life long learners. My students' language becomes more diverse as they see how authors use language to describe their characters, setting, and plot. Students also learn how to write sentences and build on those sentences as they immerse themselves in connecting real world adventures to their lives and the lives of others.
