Help Mrs. Horner

I am a first grade teacher and 54% of the students in my classroom receive free lunch. We have lots of reading activities in our class, many of which come from big books. Currently, I do not have any type of stand in which to set the big books as we read them out loud. I have to hold one side of the book and have a student hold the other side. This is not very effective. The book is never still and hard to handle by a first grader. On top of this problem, most of the books are old and falling apart. Along with holding it up, it must also be held together. First graders learn a lot of key reading strategies from big book instruction and modeling. It is an essential part of learning to read. I am requesting a big book stand and new big books for our classroom activities.
