My Students

I teach an enthusiastic group of third through fifth graders who are each as unique as they are lovable. My students are eager to learn and grow. Their passion for learning comes out in so many ways, from sharing their opinions on our class read aloud to expressing their thoughts and feelings in their reflection journals. Although all my students have their own strengths and growth areas, we all particularly love our daily independent reading time where we turn on our twinkle lights, get cozy, and curl up with a good book.

My students thrive in environments where they feel known, loved, and valued.

As a class, we are striving to build that space for each other. My students come from many different backgrounds and have many different needs, but each day we are committed to coming together and supporting one another in our learning journey.

My Project

Cognitive and neuroscience research has shown that ALL students can learn to read when given the right instruction and practice. One tool that has proven effective in helping students who are struggling to learn to read is decodable texts. Decodable texts are written so that the reader can use their knowledge of phonics to sound out each word without relying on the picture or guessing. The Dog on a Log Book Series and High Noon Book Series are broken up into levels that allow students to progress through increasingly difficult texts.

With access to books they can independently read, my students will become successful lifelong readers.

While my classroom library is currently filled with a vast collection of diverse and high-interest books, this collection of Dog on a Log books and High Noon books will help ensure my students gain the fundamental reading skills they need to fully enjoy all texts.
