My Students

As a motivated teacher, I have been blessed with the gift of my teaching career being surrounded by seventh-grade students. Their creative minds and ecstatic personalities make every day unique, and its own. In a sixth through eighth-grade middle school, my seventh-grade students are the "middle-man" of the school and continue to be role models and leaders for others around their school (academically and with high values). They have many years of academic growth and emotional challenges, yet will soon get more responsibility and knowledge moving to high school, giving them the wondrous life of leadership and learning.

As a seventh-grade English/Language Arts and Social Studies teacher, my classroom is a world full of passionate learners and readers that come from low-income housing and are on the hunt for inspiration to make their school and individual lives a success.

My students come from different personal and learning backgrounds; however, they are all seeking an adventure from their everyday lives. With support, they will reach their goals academically and personally.

My Project

These books will continue to enhance the classroom library that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy. Every book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to have a choice in what they read. I have seen over the years, that if students have quick access to books in the classroom they are more likely to read.

With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of genres that will allow them to continue to enjoy independent reading time.

In addition, all of these books have been chosen based on the expertise of your school librarian. Each year we have a "Red Carpet Read" competition. A list of 20 books is provided to the students. Each book is determined as a high-interest novel. Students can participate in this competition and try to read as many of the books as they can. As they finish reading them... they can win prizes! A

My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their reading goals.
