Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
We have twenty-one, third-grade scholars in an ICT class. Half of our scholars have Individualized Education Plans. We have been with them for one month and have grown to love them right from the start. They are on several different reading levels and are eager to read, to learn how to read and apply many skills and strategies that are needed to move forward within their years of education.
In our classroom, we use a lot of our time to read independently.
We drop everything and read. The scholars love to read independently at their level to feel that sense of accomplishment. Many can't read independently so we need those lower level books to assist them in the process. We also choose to read aloud to them to model fluency and we also use books for Guided Reading groups so that they can read and have a dialogue about books with their friends.
My Project
Many of our scholars don't have a library at home. Having books in our classroom will introduce them to new titles, authors and they will be able to increase their love for books. These materials will enable them to go into our classroom library and choose a book that they connect with and see themselves in. We only hope it sparks even a greater love for reading and even more so, writing.
Books allow our imagination to run wild and that's exactly what we want for our scholars.
We want them to be immersed in all titles and books that are rich in text, illustrations and provide them with an even stronger knowledge for years to come. We want them to love reading so much that whenever we see them, a book in right beside them.
We want our scholars to move along academically knowing that books are a daily source of knowledge. The ultimate goal is for them to move along in the years to come and feel comfortable to make books a part of their daily lives. We want books to become a part of their lifestyle, not just something they have to do.
