Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students will help create a welcoming reading corner full of adapted books! My dream is to create a space that promotes independence and fosters a love of books for my students with Autism. I am requesting two durable bean bags, a book display, and a variety of board books which are durable enough for me to turn into adapted books.

Making books accessible to all learners is incredibly important.

My students are Kindergarten, First, and Second grade students working on foundational skills such as matching. Adapted books increase engagement by providing students with a visual icon that matches a subject on each page. Vocabulary skills are also targeted through adapted books by adults modeling the important words and vocabulary focus while pairing them with visuals.

This reading space will serve as a low-demand way for students to work on basic skills, IEP goals, and develop a love for reading. Books will be switched out monthly to coordinate with our curriculum focus. I am confident that my students will love it, but I can't do it without your help!
