I teach Resource Room in a large high-needs public school in New York City. The students I teach are in grades one through five, and require additional help in reading, writing, or math to help them achieve grade-level standards. In the Resource Room, I am able to cater to the individual learning styles of each student, and instruct them using Visual-Auditory-Kinesthetic and Tactile techniques.

My students love books, but often have difficulty with comprehension skills such as main idea, retelling, using context clues, and making inferences. These skills are key to helping them become better readers and I want to enable them to be the best students they can be.

The resources I need to help my students improve their comprehension skills are the Reading Comprehension Hot Dots Story Cards. These cards provide students with a chance to independently practice the comprehension skills that I teach them. The "Hot Dots" cards are a fun, and engaging way for students to practice reading skills, as the cards come with a pen that lights up and talks to the student in response to the answer they give. Multisensory activities such as this are key to helping my special needs students.
