Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I would very much like for my students to increase their comprehension skills in a fun and engaging way, so I respectfully request that you finance the purchase of a Reading Comprehension Games Library kit. These action packed games give students a fun way to develop critical comprehension skills. I teach second graders in an urban school. 98% of our students are from low-income homes. Many of my students are second language learners. They are bright, hard working and inquisitive. They have begun to love reading, but lack the inferencing skills needed to fully understand an authors meaning. These games target standards in the areas of: recalling facts & details, understanding & analyzing text, vocabulary development, critical thinking and drawing conclusions. They can be exposed to all these important reading skills while playing games! A secondary benefit of these games are the old fashioned skills learned while playing board games; taking turns, following directions, being patient and good sportsmanship. The materials needed are only a Reading Comprehension Games Library Gr1-3. I really want my students to increase their love for reading by attaining the necessary skills to fully understand what they are reading. Playing reading games will help them develop social skills as well as reading skills.
