My Project

My precious three year olds are the youngest learners in the New York City school system. They come from diverse backgrounds and quite a few are English language learners. One of my most important jobs as their first teacher is to foster a love of reading and learning that will last a lifetime.

I'm requesting materials to help my precious three year old students discover the magic and joy of reading.

I want to create a library area in my classroom that will encourage my students to love reading and writing, complete with a puppet theater for acting out their favorite stories, felt board for building language and vocabulary, as well as soft chairs and lap desks so they can sit and create their own stories. These materials will encourage my students to discover books and the joys of reading in the way that children of this age learn best: through play.

Building language and social skills are also very important goals for my preschool students. Acting out stories with puppets and felt board pieces will encourage the students to work together and learn to have conversations with peers and help them discover and use new words in a fun way!

You can help me create an inviting library area that will bring the joy of reading to my precious students and help them become lifelong lovers of reading and learning!
