My Students

Creativity, imagination, problem solving, and collaboration are key components to authentic learning in our classroom. I have high expectations for every student. It is my responsibility to provide a variety of learning opportunities to help each child meet or exceed their goals. Our school is a K-2 school with approximately 1,000 children enrolled.

We have a diverse population of ethnic backgrounds, a growing ELL population, a high percentage of students who need accelerated learning opportunities, and students who need reading and math interventions to help them establish a firm foundation for successful learning.

My Project

I am requesting plush sea turtle reading buddies. My second graders are expected to read at home on a daily basis. I want to provide our class mascot, Maho the Sea Turtle, for each student to adopt and take home. Reading aloud to these sweet plush animals will motivate my students to read each night.

Reading aloud is a great technique to improve fluency and reading skills.

It makes words easier to remember and helps children focus better on the material in front of them. However, not everyone enjoys reading aloud in front of other people. That’s how a stuffed animal reading buddy can help. My students can practice reading to their stuffed sea turtles, and they won’t feel any performance anxiety.
