Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Each day my students walk into my classroom looking to achieve academic greatness. They bring me their bright smiles and brighter ideas on their journey, and all I want is to help them reach all their goals. They are capable of anything, all they need is support and guidance on the road to WOW!

I serve in a Title I school in south Dallas.

With 100% of my class qualifying as high poverty and "at-risk", it is essential that I provide them the best educational experiences I possibly can. My scholars are fun, energetic, creative, loving children that need as much support, guidance, and love as I can give them. Providing a safe, organized, accessible environment is the first step in ensuring that my students are excited and comfortable expressing themselves, taking risks, and growing!

My Project

Using the different strategies presented in each of the reading manuals will give my students a variety of mental tools to improve their reading skills. Also, the teacher guides provide checklists for each reading level, and my students will each have their own copies of the lists and use these to hold themselves accountable. They will use these to monitor their own growth and set personal goals for continued improvement. Students will use the guides to select the strategies they feel will help them grow the most. A range of writing instruments will help my students improve their writing in a variety of ways. They will be able to write, revise, and edit in different colors, which can make the process easier and FUN! Markers allow us to complete Interactive Writing more effectively, improving the writing skills of every student. Finally, ink for our printer will allow students to create interesting projects on our computer, like newsletters, posters, brochures, and book reports.

Donating to this project will help my students improve their overall literacy skills, which will be essential to their future success both academically and personally.

By providing more effective reading instruction, I will be able to push them to the next level and prepare them for later grades. With improvement in their writing skills we will see the students grow in their ability to communicate in a variety of ways.
