My Students

My students are a diverse group of 4th graders. They are diverse racially, ethnically, socioeconomically and in terms of their academic strengths and abilities.

My school is a progressive public school in the big city.

At our school, students learn about social and emotional growth in addition to academic learning. Our school was founded on learning about, and working to attain, social justice.

There are a lot of opportunities for small group and partner work in our school, so all of the students in each class really get to know each other as learners and as people.

My Project

For some reason, the New York City Department of Education is not providing adequate online curriculum resources. This is a particularly bad time for this failure, because our schools are facing huge budgetary shortfalls that do not allow them to pay for many online curriculum resources.

My colleagues and I have had to pick up the slack by writing almost all of the online curriculum ourselves.

This is leading to burnout amongst teachers. We need more resources, not just to make teachers' jobs easier, but to provide our students with the best curricula and online resources possible, including books.
