Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Students

I have 35 awesome scholars.

These group of students have been in the Dual Language Program since Kinder.

However, these students come from very low-income households and some of them even suffered the consequences of Hurricane Harvey this year. Most of the times they come to school with any motivation but I will do to encourage them by connecting with positive energy and energize their minds.

Considering this situation, most of them do not have access to technology at home (computers, iPads). They get very excited when they can use technology in class. I feel that this engagement helps them to learn faster and better. We do Spanish Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Spanish. All scholars understand both languages but are stronger in Spanish. The little kids are friendly and the vast majority always try their best. They love working together with their classmates and learn new things.

My Project

In our classroom, we work Spanish Language Arts and Math by following the Daily Stations. One of these stations is Listen to Reading with their classmates, where the scholars are supposed to listen to stories on their own and, afterwards, work together.

The use of the iPads, and cases, in this activity let them become autonomous with their learning and work on reading, math, and their communication skills.

They have to discuss with each other the content of the story and their opinion about it. The main purpose of having these iPads is to make students autonomous learners and help them become comfortable in this new technology era.

Having access to Apple iPad will provide my students with countless opportunities to learn and explore the world through technology, as they develop listening skills in preparation for their future careers. My students would be able to use the mini iPad in Reading and Math using safe educational apps along with their peers. The min iPad will also help my students with their research skills for Reading and Math activities. My school is an inner city school and we are trying to bridge the literacy gap between home and school. It is our desire to ensure all students are college and career ready to meet global challenges.
