My Students

My students are eager to learn how to speak, read, and write in English. I want to have materials available to reach their full potential and for them to be successful. They come to me to learn more and I want to provide the most for them.

My students I teach are English Language Learners that speak a variety of home languages including Zomi, Spanish, and Afrikaans.

The majority of my students' language is Zomi and they come from the country of Myanmar (Burma). Many of my students and families I serve are political refugees. Most have been to refugee camps in Thailand and Malaysia before coming to our school. The students at our school are excited about learning a new language and our staff has welcomed these families. We want to do everything we can to provide our students with the appropriate education to meet their needs and be successful in school and in life.

My Project

My students will be able to work on their beginning, middle, and ending sounds to become readers and writers using these materials. The PHONICS CENTER BEGINNING BLENDS phonics games will also provide vowel pattern recognition and consonant blend practice for students to expand their reading/decoding skills. The picture cards that come with these activities will lend an opportunity to discuss these items and create new vocabulary concepts for my students. These resources will also provide the next step in reading by working on comprehension skills.

Donations to this project will provide my students with an array of materials to assist in learning how to speak and read in English and increase their vocabulary.

My students' confidence will increase as they begin to practice their English skills at school and this will carry over to their home life. My students need learning materials such as Can! Do Vowel Sounds Game, Teaching Comprehension Skills Activity Center, and the Teaching Vocab. and Skills Activity Center.
