Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have a group of 4th and 5th graders who love to listen to a good story, but have been unable to take themselves on reading adventures on their own. Sadly many of them simply state, "I can't read." I am teaching them that they are capable of learning and they CAN read. They are currently memorizing the Dolch Sight word list and I would like to give them the confidence and joy of reading on their own.

These sight word books will allow these precious kids to finally say they are readers and enjoy a story without waiting for an adult to read them.

Every child should have access to books they can read independently. As they are just starting to consistently recognize the Pre-Primer list, these books will propel them to practice more and hopefully learn all 220 words this school year.
