Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach Mathematics, English Language Arts and Social Studies to a self-contained class of sixth and seventh grade students with special needs. There are eight students in my class. My students' reading levels range from first grade to sixth grade. I am fortunate to have been provided with interesting reading materials to use with my students. However, I am trying to create a reader friendly environment in my classroom. I am confident that my students will become more engaged in their reading if they have a more comfortable and aesthetically appealing environment. I would like to have an actual bookshelf for the library books and bean bag chairs. This would be a great improvement over the current set-up, which is a row of desks with the library books spread across and blue plastic chairs. My classroom is small and the bookshelf would serve also as a space-saver. I truly believe that the more you read, the more you'll love to read. I believe that these materials will help create an environment conducive to sustained independent reading for my students.
