My Students

My fourth graders are incredible, engaged and thoughtful little beings who are fueled by an insatiable sense of wonder and a persistent desire to invite, develop, and make sense of their relationship with the world around them. My classroom is made up of students from diverse backgrounds, whose life experiences and perspectives play an important role in shaping our classroom community.

My students deserve the opportunity to be exposed to and have ownership over a rich and diverse non-fiction classroom library.

With a diverse set of texts in their hands, their ability to collect and summarize facts will grow into a practice of questioning, synthesizing, and analyzing the information that is being presented to them. These text sets will inspire topics for our whole class discussions, partner work, and individual research projects.

Fourth graders who question what they read as they hold opposing view points in their minds and then develop their own interpretations and ideas = YOU MAKING THE FUTURE BRIGHTER THAN EVER!

My Project

Non-fiction texts that present multiple perspectives and are written in such a way that readers are invited to interact with the content. These texts will provide students with opportunities to question the information being presented, delve into further research, synthesize content, and grow new ideas. This work and new thinking will come to fruition during whole class conversations, debates, research clubs, and individual research projects.

With these new ideas and view points, my students will have a deeper understanding of the world that surrounds them, the world that existed before them, that exists now, and that will exist in the future.
