Readers Gotta Read!

My students need supplemental books to compliment our growing library. We need high-interest, low readability books for our students who are not reading at grade-level, as well as fiction/nonfiction paired sets to assist in test preparation.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a diverse community in Queens, NY. They come from a huge variety of economic, religious, and cultural backgrounds. We have many ENL students who are new English-language speakers and learners. Over 80% of our students qualify for free and/or reduced lunch.

Our school works hand-in-hand with the community to ensure the highest quality education for ALL students who attend here.

We have a focus on service learning and global conservation, where the students and staff take part in fundraising and creating awareness about issues within the community and around the world. We make global partnerships and teach important citizenship values to our students through these worldwide connections.

My Project

These resources will help my students access the important literacy skills we practice in our school with books on their individual reading level.

By providing my students with more leveled choices in their independent reading, they will better be able to apply the complex skills we practice in class.

Additionally, the fiction/nonfiction sets will be the perfect compliment to our current unit for test preparation. The students need to practice the complex skill of combining information across multiple texts and this collection will help us do just that! By looking for common themes across fiction and nonfiction, I hope that my students will become more critical thinkers and writers.
