Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 4th Grade at a High Poverty School. This proposal is to help 2 different 4th Grade Classes; we combined proposals in order to help the most amount of students possible.

My students love to stay current on world events but they can't afford to pay a weekly magazine. They live in a high poverty area and can't afford any "extra" costs related to school. Some of them are also struggling to read even at a second grade level.

I need Weekly Reader Magazines to keep my students reading. They need to read interesting articles that spark their various interests. By reading weekly magazines, they challenge themselves to keep reading without even realizing that they're learning.

You will make it possible for our students to keep reading the interesting articles the LOVE. They enjoy knowing what's going on in the world around them because it makes them feel "grown up" and mature. They have discussions at school with each other about the articles, and they also relate what they've learned to their parents. This enables them to acquire more knowledge about our world, while at the same time improving their reading comprehension.
