Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My kindergarteners want to learn how to read and write! They need books and writing supplies to discover the magnificent world of learning. These resources will help the students acquire vocabulary words, fluency, & comprehension. They will also learn how to write sentences with proper mechanics.

I teach Kindergarten at a Title I public school where 94% of the students receive reduced/free lunch.

The majority of the students live under stressful circumstances. Some have no parental figures, and others must care for their younger siblings. They do not have the resources that allow them to discover a new and exciting world. The students come in to my classroom with no background knowledge or prior learning experiences. They come to school with physical, social, emotional and psychological needs.

My Project

Reading opens the doors to successful careers! The First Little Readers and I Can Read! books will be used during guided reading lessons and listening centers on a daily basis to acquire skills such as: vocabulary, oral language, phonemic awareness, phonics and comprehension. After reading the book, the students will have writing activities like graphic organizers and writing sentences based on their understanding of the material. I will use the Write & Wipe Sentence Mat to model how to write sentences correctly. My school limits the number of copies teachers are permitted per month. The Dry Erase Pockets allow students to use worksheets several times. Students will practice writing their names, sight words, and sentences on the Baseline Newsprint lined paper.

"Readers Are Leaders" will help my students acquire fundamental skills necessary to be successful in reading and writing.

Kindergarteners learn by seeing, listening and doing. The materials I am requesting will be exciting and motivating, helping them create a life-long love for learning. Please help my students become motivated to read & write in an exhilarating way!
