My Students

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." Dr. Seuss Students in my 6th grade reading class must be reading and engaged in more than 50% informational text by June. Finding the materials to keep them engaged can be challenging.

These students come to my class already at a disadvantage because we are a Title 1 school.

However, just because we lack the funds does not mean we lack the drive to succeed. Most of the students who enter my class are new English Language Learners who are yearning for knowledge and information. They have personality and drive unlike any other. What they lack is money. They lack resources to keep them up to date on important issues and current events. They lack the materials to keep them engaged and meet their reading level needs.

My Project

These magazines have resources built into the program to allow for differentiation of assignments so that all readers have a chance to learn and grow. We read for at least 30-45 minutes a day in school and they read on their own for even longer at home. I can't possibly keep enough interesting materials on hand to meet the demand. Having a magazine subscription can help meet those needs of all readers on many levels. The activities that come with the subscription can help them not only read, but become successful critical thinkers as readers also.

Your donations will ensure that these students are meeting their goals and reading up-to-date and interesting materials.

This will not only help them in the present but will set-up the rest of their middle and high school careers by instilling in them at an early age how crucial being a good reader can be.
