This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am privileged to be the reading teacher for a class of 48 1st and 2nd grade students. They come to school every day eager to explore and learn about the world around them. Every child comes from a different background with varied interests and ability levels. I am dedicated to investing in all resources necessary for helping close the learning gaps created by the covid pandemic.

The school I serve in Texas supports a population that is largely economically disadvantaged, and the children have limited access to reading materials at home.

This makes the quality of instruction that happens in the classroom all the more important.

The students in my class are a wonderful, creative bunch who bring new insights to myself and each other every day, and I am proud to serve them. It would make an enormous difference to receive extra support. Thank you!

My Project

I teach a very varied group of 1st and 2nd grade students. As a result of learning disruptions, I have many students who are beginner or non-readers. These resources will help me create activities targeted towards strengthening phonics skills needed to improve reading. These phonics materials can be used for small group as well as independent workstation activities.

My classroom also lacks enough hands on manipulatives to give all my students opportunities to use them.

My students are all in person so it is important that I have enough available to minimize the number of children sharing sets of materials.
