We are a charter located on the grounds of a residential psychiatric treatment hospital in San Marcos, Texas. Our kids come from all over the country, with a variety of stories and gaps. Many of them have stories of abuse that either is the root of their behaviors and problems or increases the severity of them. Others are here for various mental health issues and supports. Most are some combination of the two, unfortunately. They live here, go to school here, and are here for months on end away from families and friends as they go through intensive therapies and more. I usually have at least a few students at any given time that come to me stating they "can't" read and/or do math, and most believe they are a level of "stupid". I have to get them through the psychological hurdles, get them in the right headspace, evaluate, and build confidence, and do what I can to help them get to grade level with as much simple but effective support as possible. These leveled readers listed help me to do that by allowing me to get to basics, practice, and gain fluency and additional practice at those lower levels they come to me with. The abacuses I ordered are so kids can each have their own to do math with. Often when they run out of fingers, things start getting tough, and frustration rises. Individual manipulatives can be tough for my kids to manage and overwhelming, so I'm trying to help them out and simplify our lives while increasing confidence and
