My Students

My fifth-grade students are working diligently to increase their twenty first century skills and self-esteem. They are highly motivated students in need of higher level thinking opportunities. I am interested in supporting my students to achieve their dreams by helping them access their inner potential.

My students are deserving of the best the world can offer because they are our future!

They are a fun-loving, creative and dedicated group of learners coming from primarily Latino families located in suburban California. Our school has about one thousand students in a PreK-5 environment where free or reduced-price lunch is the standard. We are co-located with a Magnet school on our campus.

My Project

Is the art of writing a thing of the past? If I give a writing assignment, my students groan and whine. I want them to enjoy writing and to have lots of mentor texts to use as guides for creating their own writing. Therefore, Max Axiom science comics come to the rescue. These graphic novels can provide the stimulus and confidence for my students to write their own educational comic books. In doing so, they will be reinforcing their own knowledge of what they are studying.

"The only advice anybody can give is, if you wanna be a writer, keep writing and read all you can, read everything," said Stan Lee.

Reading and writing go together. I want my students to know this and experience it. By reading lots of graphic novels, I want my students to take one of the curricular areas they are studying and begin to write a comic book. I want them to choose an area they need to practice on. This way I can see if they have really grasped the concepts of their studies. These exciting adventure stories will be packed with educational facts and details woven into the comic super hero's adventures. We plan on publishing these comic books, sharing them with other students, and displaying them for parents.

Please consider helping my students become the writers of tomorrow.
