I work at a wonderful charter school in Provo, Utah. We have been able to stay in person most of the time through the pandemic but we are still seeing some unfortunate affects for our students.
My school is a Title One school and we have a very large population of ELL kids.
We have a lot of parents that don't speak English and can't help their kids at home. The pandemic has been hard on these families since they really can't help their kids when we ask them to do online learning. Our kids are testing very low in reading and math and we are working hard to get them caught up.
My Project
The easel is needed for getting caught up on phonics and writing. I also will use it for singing time to display the words to songs. This helps us work on reading and have some fun. I feel the kids need this during these difficult times.
Kids need to put the computers down and get real books into their hands.
They will love these new books they can choose on their level to feel success. They can also take them home for extra reading practice. Kids who are absent when they are sick can take home several books.
