My Students

I am a teacher at a Title I school that has a very small library with outdated reading material. We do our best to get books in, but since we don't even have a librarian right now, our media center has been lacking big time.

Even though I bring my own books into my classroom, and have also collected donated books over the past year, my students have expressed interest in many other book series and graphic novels that I would like to get to amp up my library and spur their reading habits.

I want to show my students that I listen when they talk, and if they like to read something, I will do everything I can to make sure I have those materials available for them.

My scholars come to me from homes that are struggling financially, and also where reading isn't considered important. My goal is to show them how reading for fun can increase their success not only in academics, but in their career paths as well.

My Project

So often we forget that we REQUIRE young adults to read whatever we deem important, which can put so many of them off reading entirely. We need to show these blossoming readers that reading IS fun and there is so much in books that they just need to unlock on their own.

It's time to put the digital devices down and go back to what used to be deemed the only source of entertainment- reading!

I hope out of all these books, my students and I find even more to talk about and share with each other from the many pages we are about to explore together.
