My Students

I am a teacher at a Title One school that has a very small library with outdated reading material. We do our best to get books in, but since we don't even have a librarian right now, our media center has been lacking big time.

Even though I bring my own books into my classroom, and have also collected donated books over the past year, my students have expressed interest in many other book series and graphic novels that I would like to get to amp up my library and spur their reading habits.

I want to show my students that I listen when they talk, and if they like to read something, I will do everything I can to make sure I have those materials available for them.

My scholars come to me from homes that are struggling financial, and also, where reading isn't considered important. My goal is to show them how reading for fun can increase their success not only in academics, but in their career paths as well.

My Project

My students are challenged every day to pick reading material that they will enjoy reading, but my school is not always equipped with the material that they want. This project will go towards getting updated, high demand books into my classroom so that my students have books and graphic novels that they actually want to read. The goal is to get them to read more than they did last year- even if that's only 1 book a month. Since my students requested these books, I'm doing everything I can to get as many as I can for them. Reading will help them succeed in every class they take!
