Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of my students are first or second generation Americans. Some are learning to read English for the first time. Others are just turned off to reading because of the difficulties they have with it or their inability to find interesting books. Reading is not a priority in many of their households and many students don't even own a library card. The only exposure they have to reading is in my classroom. This is a major reason why I prioritize trying to foster a love for reading in my classroom.

My students need to see reading as something that is fun.

Creating an environment where reading is engaging and more interactive will make students excited to come to class and to read together.

My Project

If you don't read what you love, will you ever really love to read? My goal, every year, is to maintain a diverse and engaging classroom library that will help me instill in my students a love of reading. I have hand selected books that I know my students will be interested in- teen romance books for those students who dream of love; manga for the large Asian student population in my classes who live and breath all things anime; graphic novels for those reluctant readers who can't resist the beautiful at and quick storylines of a good graphic novel. Please help me reach my goal by adding these titles to our classroom library.
