This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing. They come to school prepared to learn and try their best to achieve high expectations every day. Our school is located in a low-income area with most students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.

Engagement is key for my students and I want them to be engaged in their learning and succeed!

I want my students to learn and be successful and have fun at the same time. I focus on the potential and growth of the children. That growth is measured in student joy and love for learning, their engagement in learning activities, and their desire to focus during these uncertain times!

My Project

My students have done all of their learning from their computers this year. While my first graders are quick to learn online skills and we will use plenty of online literacy tools and school text books, I want to give my students the opportunity to select from a library of books to hold in their hands. Most of my students do not have a library of books and checking out books from the library is no longer available. I want them to have enough books to make a choice about a favorite book or author.

First graders reading encourages writing and sharing of their thoughts.

My students are also using a lot of paper and are in need of the properly lined paper used to develop skills for printing words. As beginning writers, it is important to see a model of properly written letters that connect to form words. The journals in this project have the correct lines to support writing.

We will read these books together during our live video lessons, allow time for students to read to parents, then use them as a basis for lessons on empathy, kindness, confidence. Then we will write about our thoughts and work on building sentences that develop into paragraphs.. I appreciate any support you can give to support first grade emotional and academic achievements.
