This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love that my students are eager to read, but they often feel frustrated and shut down with reading grade-level texts that are expected by the state. My students have varying disabilities but they do not let it define them. I have seen them put in effort to reach their goals throughout this school year. These lower-grade level reading books will encourage them to enjoy reading more and make books accessible for them to read independently.

Reading books tailored to students' levels will make a great difference as my students are from a low-income community.

As research shows, many students who come from low-income communities have a greater risk of illiteracy. My school does have independent reading periods throughout the school week. These periods would offer time for students to read more appropriate leveled books independently.
