My Students

My students are hardworking and eager to learn following a year of virtual learning due to the pandemic. We are learning what it means to persevere and slowly but surely, students are building their stamina and learning how to persevere, even when the learning gets really tough! Kindergarten this year is completely different from what they were accustomed to in pre-k (virtually, if enrolled), they entered a whole new world but are adjusting.

After becoming accustomed to the "new normal" my students quickly adapted to the new routines and procedures and settled in as kindergartners.

While they often reminisce on their old classrooms they are chugging along on the kinder train, working on becoming readers, writers, and critical thinkers each day. We learned to become active listeners and to engage our peers in conversation by not only listening to what they have to share but adding on by agreeing, disagreeing, or building upon what was said.

Each day is an adventure with this bunch and I am so proud of their progress!

My Project

I am asking for headphones, books, and bright paper. Each day, students go to centers—one is the technology center. Students work at this center with a Chromebook or tablet and are responsible for listening to the prompts and responding. Sometimes we have headphones for each device so students, and those around them, can focus on the task while other times we turn the volume low or strategically place students so they aren't too distracted.

A huge part of the magic in Kindergarten is learning to read.

Guided reading is where most of the magic happens but we need engaging, colorful, predictable texts so students build confidence and put their skills to work!

The bright paper will be used to liven up the room with student work samples, sight words, and used to create centers materials.
