I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in 2014, and am embarking on my journey as a first year teacher in a rural, high poverty school district.
I have the honor of influencing the education of 20 bright, fervent, and lively 4th grade students. My classroom consists of students with diverse backgrounds, and varying educational needs. I am constantly reflecting on my teaching and modifying my instruction to best meet the needs of each of my students. A large number of my students are reading below grade level. My goal as a teacher is to encourage the growth of every student, for each of them to see the potential I see in them, and to achieve goals they once thought were impossible. I want my students to take pride in hard work, seek pride in their achievements, and to be eager to learn and grow together in my classroom every single day.
My Project
I am requesting professional development books related to RTI and reading interventions in intermediate grades. This request will allow me to learn more about specific interventions that I can implement into my guided reading instruction. Learning more about these interventions will allow me to better modify and differentiate my instruction in order to meet the diverse reading needs of each of my students. Providing my students with innovative, research- based interventions will allow me to support my students so that each of them can make the reading gains they need to in order to be proficient in reading.
The laptop will allow me to write lessons using specific Tier 1 and Tier 2 reading interventions that can be implemented into my guided reading instruction. I will also be able to use the laptop to share lessons with my teaching team. The laptop will allow me to take notes on my students' growth to continue writing student specific lessons to meet their individual needs.
These professional books will allow me to gain knowledge in RtI and interventions in reading, and a laptop to collect data on my students’ reading will give me the opportunity to grant my students with high quality interventions based on their diverse needs.
With these resources, I will be able to both teach guided reading more effectively, and provide my students with research based interventions, which will continue to encourage growth in each of my students' reading comprehension and skills
