My Students

What are kids reading these days? Hopefully nonfiction focusing on science concepts and historical fiction to capture their social interest. My first grade students need to get their hands on rich history and science reading to build their background knowledge for more complex topics.

My students are diverse in culture.

Some of my students are new to this country and still learning the language, while others have long mastered the language and are looking for their next challenge. Their economic and educational backgrounds range greatly. One thing remains true for all of my students...their love of learning is strong.

My Project

With the requested books my students will be able to learn more about science and history. They will have the opportunity to read books at their reading levels which highlight physics concepts, life cycles, social change, and historical events. These books are a starting point for careers in science. They are a foundation for building an awareness of social issues and empathy for others. Students in my class will have the opportunity to learn these concepts visually. They will have the opportunity to hear some of these books read aloud as a model to increase reading fluency. The more you read, the more you know. Help my students by offering them more reading choices that will help to lay a foundation for their future career choices and role in humanity.

Reading is the key to knowledge.

With your donation, my students will gain more knowledge through scientific and historical reading. Their listening center will come alive with great literature and act as a model of fluent reading. Books have the power to change. Help my students gain an interest in science and social change. Help them grow as readers by giving them more interesting choices at their reading level that will capture their imagination!
