Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach kindergarten in a high need community. My school is a Title I school where most of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Despite our needs, I hold high expectations for all of my students

Most of my students have never been exposed to the kind of atmosphere to acquire the skills needed for school success. I have to "catch up" on what my students need to succeed, therefore I spend a lot of time building knowledge of the alphabet, concepts of print, and many other things that they need to know before moving on to first grade. Everyone loves a good story. I want to give them a library full of classic stories to choose from that include predictable and rhyming text and some that they can sing along with and read at the same time. I also want to give them a chance to retell these stories with props. These items will give them the confidence they need to build success.

That is where you come in! I am asking you to help me provide my kindergarteners with the materials they need to not only become successful learners and readers but to have their confidence soaring when they go to first grade. I am requesting a library of paperback classic stories, 2 storytelling kits, a storytelling glove, and sing and read along nursery rhymes and classics.
