My Project

My PreK students love to share what they learn. They will share a funny joke they heard or retell what they did over the weekend with anyone who will listen. At this stage in their development, I focus on showing my students how words and thoughts are translated into print. I also use books and other texts to promote my student's understanding.

I want to connect my students' enthusiasm for social sharing with reading and writing.

The goal of this project is to show my students that letters and words have meaning within the context of something they love doing: talking about what they know! Tailored reading materials, an attractive setting, and interaction with peers, coupled with proper instructional facilitation, can set the foundation for students to enjoy reading and writing throughout their educational journey.

I plan to use the Scholastic magazine and book club subscription as tailored reading materials for my students. Once we are done with an article or a magazine in the classroom, students can take the materials home and continue sharing what they learned with their families. The Colorful Flexible Seating for In-Home Learning, allows me to create fun social spaces for small groups within my classroom. Groups can alternate their seating between 2 indoor spaces and 1 outdoor space.
