Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a diverse, low-income, high-poverty school district, my students face daily struggles and challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the challenges they face, my classroom is created as a safe haven for my students to feel loved, included, and safe by me and their peers. I try to provide my students with creative, meaningful and hands-on social and academic experiences that I know they would not get to experience at home.

Many of my students come from impoverished, single-family homes.

Most of my students receive free breakfast and lunch based on their socioeconomic status. I also have many students who are new to the country and are English Language Learners. Each day, I work to ensure that despite their hardships at home, my students are able to work to their fullest potential and that they are receiving the best educational experiences with me so they can grow, thrive, achieve, and be the best little people they can be.

My Project

My first graders this year have been reading machines! They have learned the love for reading, but they have outgrown many of the books we currently have in our classroom Spanish library. Our classroom has many books that are for early first grade level. We need more books that will help challenge my students' comprehension skills.

My children have learned to read; now they are ready to read to learn.

We need books in Spanish that will help teach us new concepts and challenge our students to think more deeply about the information they are reading. Requested titles focus on animals, families, and kids around the world. Your generous donation will help to improve our readers to be able to read, and learn new information.
