My Project

I am a fifth grade language arts teacher. I am helping to support students on reading levels across a wide range of abilities and passions. The materials listed in this post will be used every single day in our classroom and have been requested not by me, but by my kids. Everything will significantly help my learners grow as readers.

My kids are ready to love reading, they just need the right support to grow and advance their skills.

The cushions and rug will help create a space in our classroom for kids to work together on learning activities. The blocks work with a classroom vocabulary game that students will play each day in small groups to help learn new vocabulary words (like veteran, blunder, etc.) through practicing different vocabulary skills as they build. The cart will help us bring our book club books, laptops, lunches, etc. around the building so we can read together outside on the playground.

The books in this post are some of my favorites. I read to my kids everyday so they can hear in my voice how much I love to read too. Mentor texts like these spark the kids own creative ideas during writer's workshop. Who knows, one of my students might turn out to be the next great children's book author one day.
