My Students

My students attend a Title I school in a high needs area where they receive free breakfast and lunch each day. Many of these students live in poverty. My 4th grade class consists of general education students, students with disabilities, and English language learners. Many of these students only have the books we provide for them at school and do not receive any help outside of school. They come from families that do not speak English.

Fund this project and my students will have new books to read and enjoy!

My Project

I'm teaching in a 4th grade integrated co-teaching class this year! We were given an empty classroom in September and 30 students. We are trying desperately to build a classroom library. The students in my class need books on various levels to enjoy for independent reading. A students reading ability directly affects their success in other subject areas. When students become better readers, they become better writers, and expand their vocabularies. Students need to be able to read in all subject areas; students read math word problems, read directions, read for information in content areas to name a few of these areas. When students read they develop their language skills, enhance their concentration, and develop empathy.

Reading is also a great form of entertainment for children, while enabling them to exercise their brains and develop their imagination and creativity.

With your help, we can begin to rebuild a classroom library for the students to enjoy.
