Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

This year our students were introduced to a new ELA curriculum. In our studies we were able to incorporate social studies and science into our lessons. As with most adolescents, there was big resistance to having to read.

We soon realized that journaling their thoughts helped the students want to read more.

As the students got involved they were able to make real life connections to the material being presented. We would like to give them a journal to continue writing down their thoughts as well as a certificate of completion for completing the new reading curriculum.
