Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Ms. Preto's students are from New York City and range from kindergartners to fifth graders. Our school values giving students opportunities to explore all of their creative interests through music, theatre, art, dance and STEM. Every year, they are bursting with creativity and are ready to work through new challenges.

My Project

At PS 49, our school strives to have our students represented in literature that will inspire their creativity and speak to their hearts. The books chosen show kids from all walks of life and how they overcome challenges. Literature is both a mirror and window for students.

They will help students see that challenges in STEM are part of learning and growing and how to use their social emotional skills to overcome challenges.

The materials will be used in a variety of projects such as bridges, supply storage containers, models of rooms and so much more! These materials were chosen to be used by students from kindergarten to fifth grade. They are open ended and will given students the opportunity to think outside of the box while developing their engineering, problem solving, and teamwork skills.
