My Students

The students in my classroom are students with learning disabilities. My class serves students with a range of disabilities such as intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance and other specific learning disabilities.

Many of the students in my class read at kindergarten and first grade levels.

They struggle with basic phonics and number sense and are multi-sensory learners.

They also come from low income neighborhoods. As a special education teacher, I have to make learning visual for my students so that instructions in science, math, English and social studies more engaging.

I need resources that will help motivate, reinforce and improve students comprehension so that learning is meaningful to them, as well as build their confidence and self esteem as they make educational success.

My Project

My students need to improve their reading skills, fluency and comprehension to meet grade level expectations.

These materials will make a difference and improve students school life because they will be able to use the materials independently in a relaxed, comfortable environment, stay focused and make progress.

Students will have easy access to Leap Frogs, soft pillows, pocket charts and dry erase markers on a daily basis and become responsible learners. In the process, they will become familiar with using these materials. They will also help students become proactive learners, stay focused and build reading stamina.

Finally, they will gain self confidence as they continue to make reading progress and learn to express themselves better verbally and in writing.
