My Students

Building reading stamina for my students has been a challenge. A lot of my students don't have books at home. I would love to create a lending library for my students. I want them to borrow books so that they can read at home every day. We need more books, especially at a lower level, so that they can read everyday at home. I want them to develop a love of reading. They need to read every day, in school and at home.

My Project

My students need leveled readers so that they can read at home. Reading is the foundation for all subjects. If my first graders develop a love of reading now, I hope they will develop a lifelong love of reading.

As part of their homework each night, I assign independent reading.

A lot of my students struggle to complete that portion of their homework because they need books at home.

If I can send home 2-3 books in a baggie each day, they can do their homework. I will include a reading log for their parents to sign as well as comprehension questions. Reading will become part of their daily routine and they will soon be on grade level.
