My Students

My students are hardworking and eager to learn! During the first few weeks of school, we learned the word "persevere" and ever since, my crew has persevered, even when the learning got really tough! Kindergarten is completely different than what they were accustomed to in pre-k, they entered the classroom shocked to see a room void of dramatic play and nap mats!

After getting over the initial shock of "what was missing," my students quickly adapted to the new routines and procedures and settled in as kindergartners.

While they often reminisce on their old classrooms they are chugging along on the kinder train, working on becoming readers and writers and critical thinkers each day. We learned to become active listeners and to engage our peers in conversation by not only listening to what they have to share, but adding on by agreeing, disagreeing or building upon what was said.

Each day is an adventure with this bunch and I am so proud of their progress!

My Project

These books have been categorized specifically for kindergarten and first grade students, grades where students gain their reading eyes! Students enter kindergarten with varying ability levels; some identify letters and produce corresponding sounds. Others need a little help identifying letters and slowly work toward identifying sounds, then put their letter-sound correspondence to word and begin to decode words. Voila! We have a reader!

These books will be used in guided reading where I work with students in small groups to help them become stronger readers.

Books will be also be available for students to browse and read independently in our library center.
