This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a group of eager scholars who love to read. They are from different backgrounds, with that said some come from very low income migrant families and very few of them have both parents at home. Some of them are not only dealing with a family situation but also struggling to be bi-literate in English and Spanish.I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I do this by instilling the love of reading and writing. I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.

My Project

There are not enough Spanish books to go around among my 62 first graders. The little that we have are falling apart or hanging on by brittle cover pages. We are in dire need of these books so that my early readers can practice their reading at home and school. These books are right at their level with simple sentences but yet colorful graphics to help my Spanish language learners understand what they read. The more books they have the more they will practice their reading. By allowing me to have these books you are allowing my students to continue their love of reading.
