Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a first grade teacher in Miami, Florida, at an amazing school. My students love to learn and are always eager for a new learning challenge. Most of my students are Hispanic and struggle with Reading since their first language is Spanish. I love that I can relate to them since I too attended a public school in our community and also come from a Hispanic family.

My students are special because they work hard every day and always try their best even when its a lesson they struggle with.

They never give up and always surprise me with their ideas and their ability to solve problems as a team. They are very kind to each other and genuinely care for their friends.

On a daily basis, I see my students sharing how they figured out a math problem, help each other find the pages in a book, and worry about who ate their food in the cafeteria and who did and did not have enough to eat. My students along with their parents are also very dedicated to our school and cooperate in activities such as beautification day, trunk or treat, or donating items for our class.

My Project

My students will benefit from a document reader because they need a lot of modeling when I am teaching a lesson. Sometimes I don't have enough dry erase board to model what we are learning.

Since most of my students are not native English speakers, they require lots of visuals in order to understand a lesson.

For example, when doing a science worksheet together, I'll be able to point out difficult words in a passage without having to go one by one to help them look for the words. In Math, I'll be able to show them step by step when solving a problem.
