My Project

My students deserve to see themselves reflected in the materials that are used in school. As a school social worker, I use books and bibliotherapy to teach important skills to my students. Topics include grief, social skills, impulse control, gender identity, feelings, etc. Books are an effective tool in social emotional learning, however, they are most impactful when they represent a variety of races and cultures. It is important that my students see characters that look like them to help them make personal connections. When my students can relate to a character in a book, they are more likely to make a positive change. Please help me eliminate barriers to social emotional learning by building an inclusive social work library where students feel safe and comfortable to learn and grow.
